2020 Toyota Highlander Preview

2020 Toyota Highlander

Toyota unveiled the 2020 Highlander at the New York International Auto Show, giving us a preview of the next generation of one of the industry’s most popular three-row SUVs.

The new Highlander boasts new high-tech features, an optional hybrid powertrain with significant fuel economy improvements, and a bold new design to wrap it all up.

Notably, the SUV now rides on the Toyota New Global Architecture, the automaker’s new modular platform, which now underpins most of its models. This has allowed it to receive even more upgrades than we might have normally expected.

Under the hood, the 2020 Toyota Highlander will feature a 3.5-liter V6 making 295 horsepower or a new Predictive Efficient Drive hybrid system, which analyzes driver habits and GPS data to anticipate upcoming roads and optimize when to use the electric motor.

As a result, Toyota says the Highlander will deliver a combined 34 miles per gallon — that’s 17 percent better than the 2018 model and a hugely impressive figure for a three-row SUV.*

Inside, the new Highlander finally offers Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay™, and even Amazon Alexa integration. It gets a high-mounted touchscreen (8 inches wide by default and 12.3 inches on the Platinum trim), seats wrapped in your choice of cloth, synthetic leather or genuine leather, and an optional JBL® audio system.

Every 2020 Highlander will also be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0, the automaker’s upgraded suite of active safety technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assistance, and automatic emergency braking.
